It was a fantastic day for Indian tennis fans as two Indians advanced to the second round of a Grand Slam. Somdev and Sania both reached the second round in singles at the Flushing Meadows yesterday.

Somdev beat Frederico Gil of portugal 6-3,6-4,6-3 to advance to the second round of Men’s singles. Sania Mirza though struggled but held pn to beat Olga Govortsova 6-2,3-6,6-3 to advance to the second round of the US open.

I guess this is the first time we have seen two Indians reach the second round of a major Grand Slam tournament in singles. Congrats to both of them and I hope that they carry on and win more games.
